How to Measure the Impact of Int'l Scholarship Programs: Seeking Appropriate & Practical Approaches

AMINEF and the Ford Foundation will co-host a panel discussion on How to Measure the Impact of International Scholarship Programs: Seeking Appropriate and Practical Approaches. It will be held at the Ford Foundation auditorium on on August 16, 2017 from 14:00 to 16:00 at Sequis Center, Auditorium 11th Fl, Jl. Jend. Sudirman Kav. 71, Jakarta.

Newly returned Fulbright alumnus Dr. Budi Waluyo (PhD, Education, Lehigh University, Pennsylvania) has raised a topic in his dissertation that should be of great interest to educators, university lecturers and administrators, donor organizations, philanthropies, and bilateral agencies that support individual scholarships, as well as to the general public. His dissertation is a case study of the Ford Foundation International Fellowship Program, which gave thousands of scholarship over a decade in several countries around the world, with the intention of supporting candidates, often from disadvantaged background, with a strong commitment to social justice in their home countries. Dr. Budi wanted to see to what extent the scholars upon their return made contributions in the realm of social justice.

Organizations offering international scholarships, such as LPDP, USAID, Fulbright, Australia Awards, Erasmus, Chevening, Mombusho, are often challenged to explain what the social impact of their grants to individuals adds up to. Budi’s research results should thus stimulate a a fascinating and useful discussion among the following notable discussants: Dr. Irid Agoes, former director of the IIE Foundation, which managed the IFP program in Indonesia, Dr. Peter Cronin, Director, Education Office, USAID Jakarta, and, as moderator, Mr. David Hulse, Representative of the Ford Foundation in Indonesia.
